Today we honor the families of fallen service members.
In 1936, Congress officially declared the last Sunday in September Gold Star Mother’s Day. The following day, this day was extended to all Gold Star families. Today, the day is commemorated in a variety of ways, including memorial ceremonies, community events, and the issuance of Gold Star license plates in many states.

Each gold star represents a life given in service and a family whose life has been forever changed. For all who see them on the road, they are a silent yet powerful reminder that the price of freedom is deeply personal and never forgotten.
